Paris, Versailles, and Giverny Await…
You’ll explore Paris, Versailles, and the former home of Monet in Giverny.
Tour the Louvre, Notre Dame, and more. See the famous Japanese bridge at Monet’s residence and tour the gardens.
On your arrival at the airport, your private driver will be waiting for you. You will be transferred to your hotel. Rest of your day at leisure.
This morning, your private guide will pick you up at your hotel. Together, you will walk 10 minutes from your hotel to join the Batobus on the Seine River, departure St Germain des Pres to the Louvre. Enjoy a private guided tour of the Louvre (skip the line ticket included). The Louvre is one of the largest palaces in the world and, as a former residence of the kings of France, one of the most illustrious. It exemplifies traditional French architecture since the Renaissance, and it houses a magnificent collection of ancient and Western art.
After your tour, continue with your guide on the Batobus to reach the Eiffel Tower. When Gustave Eiffel’s company built Paris’ most recognizable monument for the 1889 World’s Fair, many people regarded the massive iron structure with skepticism. Today, the Eiffel Tower, which continues to serve an important role in television and radio broadcasts, is considered as an architectural wonder.
You will have a reservation for lunch at the restaurant 58 on the 1st floor of the Eiffel Tower with an amazing view. After lunch, your guide will help you explore the tower (you can go to the 2nd and/or 3rd floor directly). After your visit, your guide will take you to Notre Dame Cathedral. The Notre Dame Cathedral with its sculptures and stained glass windows shows the heavy influence of naturalism, unlike that of earlier Romanesque architecture. It was one of the very first Gothic cathedrals, and its construction took place throughout the Gothic period.
Then, your guide will take you back to your hotel with the Batobus or if you prefer, walking.
This morning your private driver and guide will pick you up at your hotel for a private walking tour of Montmartre.
Trace the maple-dappled paths of Montmartre Cemetery to the resting places of the old avant garde — Edgar Degas, Gustave Moreau and Francis Picabia lie here, amongst the more obscure departed. Ride the cable car up the hill to the Basilique du Sacré-Coeur de Montmartre. Built to cure the country’s spiritual ills in the face of military defeat at the hands of Germany, the basilica expresses a singular faith in beauty’s power to move. From the steps outside, amidst hawkers and street performers, the city succumbs to countless daubs of gray in the dusk. After the tour your guide will be happy to recommend some places to enjoy your lunch in Montmartre. Your guide will drop you off at the restaurant of your choice, or take you back to your hotel.. Rest of the day at leisure.
Today enjoy a semi-private tour of two must-see sights in one day: Giverny and the Palace of Versailles. Pick up at your hotel at 8:15 a.m. for a minibus journey of around one hour and 15 minutes to Giverny. The number of participants is limited to eight to allow you to enjoy a personalized excursion with your driver-guide. Immerse yourself in the world of Claude Monet, famous for his many paintings of different views of his garden. The artist Claude Monet lived in Giverny for more than 40 years, from 1883 until his death. Your driver-guide will take you to the gardens. Spend time wandering around the Clos Normand Flower Garden, home to a number of plants of Eastern origins, the multicolored flower beds, and the stunning water garden, so famous for its water lilies and Japanese bridge.
Visit Claude Monet’s house, where he lived and worked, at your own pace. Explore the reading room that leads into the larder and the artist’s studio. As well as those of his private apartments, these rooms have been reconstructed with Monet’s original furniture. Visit the dining room, home to Monet’s collection of Japanese prints (one of the largest in the world), as well as the blue-tiled Kitchen. At the end of your tour, take the opportunity to visit the Impressionists Museum and the lovely gift and book shop housed in what was once the Water Lilies studio.
After your two-hour visit, enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, ten minutes away from Giverny.
In the afternoon, spend two hours discovering the Palace and Gardens of Versailles. Your guide will take you to the palace entrance. Skip the line to visit the most beautiful rooms with a guided tour: these include the King’s Apartments, with seven salons each decorated on the theme of a different god, and the Queen’s Apartments. Stroll along the sparkling Hall of Mirrors, imagined by the architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart as a place for parading and being seen. Designed to dazzle the Sun King’s visitors, this huge hall with marble and gilded bronze decoration was somewhere to stroll and meet. Once your guide has told you about the different parts of the palace, spend time exploring the Gardens of Versailles while you admire their magnificent sculptures (marble statues, busts and vases), fountains and ponds. In Summer, a range of activities is staged in the gardens, such as the Grandes Eaux Musicales, when the fountains dance in time with music.
Your return to your Paris accommodation is scheduled for approximately 5:15 p.m.
