Itinerary

Day 1 – Auckland

On your arrival at the airport you will be transferred by your private driver to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure.

Sprawling over the narrow isthmus between the Tasman and Pacific Oceans, Auckland’s waterside location and the local enthusiasm for the ocean have seen it named the ‘City of Sails’. Although Auckland lost its position as seat of Government in 1865, it is New Zealand’s trade capital and centre of greatest population with a diverse mix of Polynesian, Asian, Maori and European cultures.

The warm and sunny climate here encourages sub-tropical growth of all kinds. Lush rainforest covers the surrounding hills and creeps up the cones of extinct volcanoes which thrust sharply upward from a sea of houses throughout the city. The highest, Mount Eden, is an ideal point to view this widespread metropolis, out across the Waitemata Harbour to the east and the Manukau Harbour to the west. The beautiful Waitemata Harbour gives Auckland a nautical flavour and is the largest port in the country. In contrast, the Manukau Harbour, formed during the same geological time as the Waitemata, is an area of mud flats and tidal channels, protected by a difficult bar at its mouth.

Day 2 – Auckland

Private Auckland Morning City Sights & Auckland Harbour Cruise

This morning you will be picked up by your driver for your half day private tour and discover first-hand why Auckland is regarded as one of the best places in the world to live! Your half day tour takes you around the central city, experiencing many of its best and most scenic sights. Explore Auckland’s famous Queen Street followed by the history of Karangahape Road. Discover the vibrant culture of Ponsonby Village with its boutique eateries and retail stores before making your way over the Auckland Harbour Bridge for stunning views over the glittering Waitemata Harbour back to the city.

Returning over the Harbour Bridge you visit the Viaduct Harbour before continuing on through the Auckland Domain. With its classic charm the Auckland Domain is the city’s oldest and one of its largest parks, situated on a 62,000 year old volcano. Following our visit to the Domain you continue to Parnell Village for our morning tea stop. The historic buildings of Parnell have been transformed in to a trendy shopping area featuring many boutiques, antique, craft and specialty shops.

Following this, your tour will then take you along the stunningly scenic waterfront route of Tamaki Drive to the Michael Joseph Savage Memorial Park, in Mission Bay. Michael Savage is often regarded as one of New Zealand’s greatest and revered Prime Ministers, and was given the title of ‘New Zealander of the Century’ by the New Zealand Herald in 1999. The memorial Park has beautiful panoramic views over Whenua Rangatira, Auckland city and Waitemata Harbour. This park is a popular wedding venue, with its formal gardens and tranquil atmosphere. Next you head towards Mission Bay, the popular seaside suburb which was once home to a Melanesian Missionary school. Enjoy the beach and promenade – popular with Aucklanders and visitors alike.

The tour will then take you back along the waterfront before returning to downtown Auckland for your lunch cruise.

Escape city life as the luxury cruise vessel Ipipiri glides out of Auckland’s Viaduct. Take in highlights of the beautiful Waitemata Harbour like the Auckland Harbour Bridge, the seaside suburb of Devonport with its twin lookouts of Mt Victoria and North Head, Bean Rock Lighthouse and Bastion Point.

Enjoy a three-course buffet lunch showcasing fresh local produce and wines as you cruise past the islands of the Hauraki Gulf: Rangitoto, Motutapu, Motuihe with its golden sandy beaches and little Browns Island. Experience scenic views of Auckland’s eastern beaches and the city skyline as we return to shore. (Cruise time is 11.00am – 1.30pm)

Please return to your accommodation by own arrangements.

Day 3 – Auckland

Day at leisure in Auckland or optional Waiheke Island Wine Tour (not included).

Private Waiheke Island Wine Tour

Board your ferry from the Downtown Auckland Ferry Terminal and enjoy the scenic 40 minute cruise to Waiheke Island through the beautiful Hauraki Gulf. This stunning island just off the Auckland coast boasts 92 square kms of beautiful beaches, vineyards, olive groves, native bush and laid back seaside villages.

On your arrival at Waiheke Island, you will be met by your private wine guide for your full day wine tour.

During your tour, you will visit three vineyards, which may include: Cable Bay, Goldie, Kennedy Point, Mudbrick, Obsidian, Stonyridge, Te Whau, Jurassic Ridge, The Hay Paddock, Passage Rock, Peacock Sky or Wild on Waiheke

An olive oil tasting may also be included if you wish. On the way, stunning scenery is absolutely unavoidable! You will also be entertained by a commentary on Waiheke from one of our experienced guides, all of whom are locals with extensive knowledge of the island, its people and its produce. The tour normally includes a two-hour lunch stop at a village or beachside café, or, for a memorable gourmet experience, at one of our top vineyard restaurants.

Lunch is an additional cost and it is advisable that we reserve a table for you at the time you confirm your booking.

At the end of your trip, you will be returned to the ferry (4.00pm ferry to Auckland).

Day 4 – Rotorua

Private Auckland – Rotorua, via Waitomo

This morning you will be collected by your driver for your journey through to Rotorua, via Waitomo.

Leaving Auckland in the morning, travel through the Waikato and King Country regions, passing by flourishing farmland and picturesque countryside. Your guide will provide commentary and point out highlights along the way, such as Rangiriri, where in 1863 a major battle was fought between colonial forces and those loyal to the Māori King.

On arrival in the small town of Waitomo, take a trip underground with a 45 minute guided tour through the world famous Waitomo Glowworm Caves, a series of limestone caves formed over 30 million years ago. Learn all about stalagmites, stalactites and other intriguing rock formations as you walk through the caverns, and finish the tour with an enchanting boat ride through the Glowworm Grotto, illuminated by thousands of tiny glowworms.

Following your tour, your journey to Rotorua continues, passing through the beautiful Fitzgerald Glade where trees arch over the road to form a tunnel of natural greenery. A delicious lunch is served onboard the coach. The tour concludes in Rotorua, drop off to your hotel around 1.30 pm. Time to relax.

Tamaki Maori village – Hangi & Concert

Around 6pm, pick up at your hotel for a traditional Marae, a sacred meeting place just outside Rotorua’s city limits. By the time you arrive you will have been prepared for the spine chilling “Wero” and welcome on to the Marae. Upon entering the exquisitely carved meeting house you will “Hongi” (greet) with your hosts. The tradition of pressing noses means you become “friend” and you may consider yourself as one with the family. Then you will experience the unique culture of the Maori people including fierce haka’s (war dances), action dances and stick games.

As one people you will all then move to the opening of the authentic ”Hangi” (feast) pit where you will see the traditional Maori method of food preparation. After a short time of socializing you will be seated to a Hangi of delicious foods – potatoes, kumara, pork, lamb, chicken and vegetables, followed by steamed pudding and custard. Vegetarians are also catered for. Return to the hotel later in the evening (around 9.30pm).

Day 5 – Rotorua

Private Eco Thermal Half Day Park Tour including Waiotapu & Waimangu

This morning you will be transferred from your accommodation by your private local naturalist guide who will explain the volcanic processes of Rotorua and New Zealand. You will see volcanoes, geysers, and hot springs. The two parks offer a variety of thermal activity; at Wai-o-tapu the colourful hot springs are the key features along with the famous Lady Know geyser.
