DESCRIPTION
1
Arrive Manaus
Depart Miami on your evening flight to Manaus, situated in the middle of the Amazon rainforest and furthest point along the Amazon's deep-water channel. As arrival is just after mid-night, your room is reserved for immediate occupancy.
Board your Cruise
The morning is unscheduled to give you a chance to catch up from your late arrival and enjoy the amenities of your Portuguese colonial-style oasis, on the banks of the River Negro. Sleep late, take a swim or stroll the lush tropical grounds. In the mid-afternoon sightsee Manaus en route to the pier to board the Iberostar Grand Amazon and begin your Rio Negro Amazon cruise experience. Manaus sprang from humble beginnings as an Indian village built around a fortress constructed to repel Dutch invaders. You will be impressed with the sheer volume of vessels that ply their way from her to every township up and down this great river.
3
Amazon River Cruise
Arrive in Novo Airao this morning. After breakfast, you are off on a motor launch trip along the Trinchera Igarape (Creek) in hopes of seeing the Botos, the friendly, intelligent pink river dolphins. After lunch on board, continue to Lake Aracari where a photo excursion reveals the abundance of wildlife. How about a little Piranha fishing? After dinner this evening, you might like to accompany the on board naturalist on a caiman spotting cruise.

Re-board the vessel and continue towards Ilha de Jacare. This afternoon's photo launch excursion in the Aturia Igarape furthers your education of the Amazon flora and fauna.

On to Rio de Janeiro
Be on deck bright and early this morning to observe the phenomenon known as the meeting of the waters, as the black waters of the Rio Negro and the yellow waters of the Solimoes merge. It is a sight worth seeing. Disembark in Manaus after breakfast. Visit the 19th century Italian Renaissance Opera House, a tribute to the rich and glamorous period of the rubber boom. Later, transfer to the airport for the late afternoon flight to exhilarating and cosmopolitan Rio de Janeiro, a sharp contrast from your jungle adventure.
Everything Rio
No trip to Rio would be complete without a visit to Corcovado, where the statue of Christ the Redeemer, newly appointed Wonder of the World, welcomes all visitors to the city. After lunch at one of Rio's historic restaurants, the belle epoque Confeitaria Colombo, in the heart of old Rio, get to know historic downtown Rio with its contrasts of historic buildings and multicultural modern urban design. Tonight enjoy a farewell dinner at a renowned local restaurant. Then, get a taste of the Latin rhythms of Rio's nightlife at a Platforma Carnival Show, replete with Brazilian folklore songs, dances and elaborate costumes.
