2 On to the Lost World (Canaima)
Canaima is the third largest national park in the world, located in an area known as the great Savannah. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was probably thinking of this part of the world when he wrote his famous novel about the Lost World. With its tabletop mountains (tepuys) from where spectacular waterfalls precipitate into the abyss, unexplored rivers, rolling savannah and mysterious caves, Canaima provides such unique and primeval landscapes that you wouldn’t be surprised to spot a dinosaur appearing from behind one of the sacred tepuys. We will fly over this vast park and land at the famous Canaima Lagoon, where our lodge is located. This afternoon we board motorboat boats and enjoy a launch excursion on the lagoon. (B,L,D)

Waku Lodge

3 Falls or canyon, the day will be unforgettable (Canaima)
During the rainy season, between May and November, we embark on one of the most fascinating explorations you will ever experience. We get up before sunrise, drive over the Canaima Lake and then cross the silent savannah using a combination of 4x4 vehicles and dugout canoes. At the enchanting Orchid Island, we stop for a well deserved breakfast. Earlier we have had our first glimpse of the biggest mountain in Canaima and oldest in the world: The Auyantepuy. Next we take on the Churum River, one of the highlights of the day. We will navigate along the spectacular Devil’s Gorge enjoying the numerous waterfalls and small rapids until we get to Ratoncito Island. Good weather conditions will ensure spectacular views of the majestic mountain and the famous falls. Adventurous spirits will then have the chance to continue on a one-hour demanding trek through the rainforest up to the Laime Lookout Point, so close to the falls that you will feel the “rain” produced by the precipitating falls. On the return trip we will stop at Sapo Falls and walk behind the water curtain.

Waku Lodge

4 Choroni, the Caribbean of yesteryear (Puerto Colombia)
Enjoy the morning relaxing on the lodge’s beach or by taking a self guided walk through various paths near the lodge. After a mid-day flight to Caracas, our guide will meet you at the airport and take you on a three-hour ride along the Caribbean Coast to Choroni. The village of Choroni, located on the mountainous coastal boundaries of Pittier's National Park, is a small fishermen village with a beautiful palm fringed beach. The village, founded in 1616, was a main cocoa production center during colonial times and still preserves many of its original colonial buildings. Nowadays, this paradise of peace and tranquility offers excellent bird watching opportunities, several examples of tropical flora such as orchids, bromeliad and heliconias, long sandy beaches, and the beauty of the surrounding rainforest. This evening enjoy the typical rhythms that constitute one of the best preserved traditions of this laidback paradise. (B,D)

Posada Turpial

5-6 Lush parks, azure waters and colonial charm (Puerto Colombia)
You have two days to enjoy Choroni at your own pace. We recommend you take a tour to Henri Pittier, Venezuela’s oldest national park. Extending from the mountains to the ocean, the park covers different altitudes, which explain the existence of several natural habitats and great variety of plants and animals in the park, incuding 520 species of birds and numerous mammals and reptiles such as howler monkeys, armadillos, anteaters, tapir, ocelot, river otter, puma, porcupine, deer and many others. Another fascinating excursion is Chuao, a picturesque coastal village accessible only by boat, where you can spend the day visiting the cocoa and tropical fruit plantations and snorkeling in the nearby virgin reef. All excursions at extra cost. (B,D)

Posada Turpial

7 Return to Caracas (Macuto)
Breakfast at the hotel and free time to enjoy the beach at Playa Grande or do some shopping in the downtown. At the appointed time our guide will drive you in reverse order to Caracas. (B)

8 Depart Caracas
Farewell Eco Voyagers! Today our local representative will be transferring you to the airport in time for your departure flight. We recommend you extend your stay in Venezuela with a visit to the jungles of the Orinoco Delta or the savannahs at Los Llanos, where you will observe tons of wildlife. We wish you a pleasant trip back home and hope to enjoy your company in another exciting adventure very soon. (B)
