We get up early to catch a morning flight to Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire. Upon arrival, a representative will be waiting to drive us to our hotel in the Sacred Valley. We will be greeted with a welcome coca tea (excellent for acclimation) and showed to our room. This afternoon, in the company of a local guide, we jump on our horses and set off to discover the secrets of this incredible valley of harvest terraces, majestic mountains and Inca villages steeped in ancient traditions. We will return in the early evening, full of fresh stories and anecdotes compiled during our explorations. At night trade stories with other guests at the hotel's cozy lounge, take a stroll around the village, or relax in the hotel gardens and marvel at the starry sky. (B,D)

Back in the city we will visit the cathedral, the Santo Domingo Monastery and other ornate buildings constructed in the most genuine Baroque and Renaissance style. As you visit the different sites, you will be introduced to the interesting history of this amazing city and learn about the Inca way of life and the evolution of the cultural scene after the arrival of the Spaniards. The rest of the day is free to continue exploring the town at your own pace, peruse the local handicraft shops in the San Blas District, do some shopping or rub elbows with the locals and kids playing in the Plaza de Armas. 5 Machu Picchu with overnight included (Machu Picchu)
Early morning departure transfer for the Ollanta train station. Once there we board the train bounded for the Lost City of the Incas. We will ride along a flat patched landscape of vegetable orchards and cereal harvests. After dropping off the adventure hikers at km 104, we enter the semi-tropical jungle that forms the natural threshold of Machu Picchu. The train ascends into the mountains, guided by the Urubamba River, until reaching a small village set in a narrow valley flanked by precipitous peaks, in a landscape of impossible beauty. Machu Picchu, the last refuge of the Inca Virgins of the Sun, the private retreat of the Inca Pachacutec, the lost city found by Hiram Bingham, sits on the saddle of a mountain overlooking the deep canyon. It is time to discover. After a guided tour of the famous citadel we will have lunch and then we have some free time at the lovely Pueblo hotel. This evening, you may want to experience a genuine Andean sauna before showing your kids the Milky Way and the Southern Cross in the star-studded Inca sky. (B,L,D)

In the afternoon, board the comfortable Vistadome train for your ride back to Cusco. Upon arrival our local team will be waiting at the station to transfer you to your hotel. (B)

Continue to the pier to board a motorized canoe for the 45-minute ride downriver. Arrival at the lodge in time for lunch.
