Soon after, he began creating escorted vacations. Early tour business placed emphasis on the Holy Land. Then in 1956 he seized a golden opportunity. Maupintour became the first company to send tourists into the Soviet Union after World War II. These tours were unprecedented in tourism and received wide national press coverage that instantly established Maupintour as an innovative, forward-thinking company, a reputation that it still maintains.
