Argeliers
Argeliers is a commune in the Aude department in the Languedoc-Roussillon region in southern France.Three minutes walk from the Canal du Midi between Carcassonne and Beziers, Argeliers is the perfect base for exploring the Languedoc region. To the North and in the heart of the Minervois wine making region is the picturesque Cathar village of Minerve. Perched on a rocky outcrop and approached by a bridge spanning the gorge of the river Cesse it was the site of the famous siege and martyrdom of the Cathar Parfaits by Simon de Montfort in 1210. To the west is the magnificent medieval walled Cité of Carcassonne and beyond, towards the foothills and mountains of the Pyrenees are the outstanding Cathar castles of Queribus and Peyrepertus rising out from the peaks of the Corbiers.
