El Chaltén is a small village located 140 miles from El Calafate in the heart of Los Glaciares National Park, at the foot of mythical Fitz Roy. Popularly known as the trekking capital of Argentina, El Chalten serves as the gateway for all hiking and trekking expeditions into the Southern Ice Cap (the second largest ice mass in the Americas, after Antarctica). The town is situated in an area of incredible natural beauty, surrounded by ancient forests, imposing peaks such as Cerro Torre and the mythical Fitz Roy and crystalline lakes such as Lake Viedma.
